The girl from yesterday…

Can you hear the beating drum?
Marching through deafening silence
Across the alleys, valleys,
Through crowded streets of malice

Can you hear the click of heels?
Marching through bright city lights
Laden with prickly coloured feet
Hiding away in darkened closets

Can you see the lines that run across her face?
They echo a pain that cries,
Lost in the noise of the scenes that fill the mind
Blinding the truth for a lie that shies
Caged by conditions unkind
There she sits in the corner as she flies
In her dreams with wings made of hope
As tears fill the pools of her beautiful eyes

And there she goes…

We’ve known
Her faces, her cases, her through the ages
Into the unknown
Where she goes
Into the places, the spaces, leaving behind traces
Of all that we drew for her to believe in
And left her stranded, alone in a crowd

And there we go…

She knows
Our faces, our cases, us through the ages
That everything we believe remains unknown
As we go
Into our places, our spaces, leaving behind traces
Of all that we promised, building dreams
Only to leave her stranded, all by herself in a crowd

Can you hear the stars of the night?
Whispering softly, building rainbows in the darkness
Through colours of cosmic light
That shines through empty skies

Can you hear her tender smile?
Quietly passing her lips
As she wonders if you’ve been listening to her eyes
Looking on, as she pours her heart in drips

Can you see the lines that run across her face?
They echo a joy that cries,
Loud in the noise of the scenes that fill the mind
Screaming the lie for the truth, it shies
Caged by inhibitions, entwined
There she sits, out in the open as she flies
Caught in her dreams with wings made of hope
As tears fill the pools of her saddened eyes

And so, there she goes…

We’ve known
Her faces, her cases, her through the ages
Into the unknown
Where she goes
Into the places, the spaces, leaving behind traces
Of all that we drew for her to believe in
And left her stranded, alone in a crowd

And there we go…

She knows
Our faces, our cases, us through the ages
That everything we believe remains unknown
As we go
Into our places, our spaces, leaving behind traces
Of all that we promised, building dreams
Only to leave her stranded, all by herself in a crowd
